Project overview

An underused roof terrace in the heart of a Surrey high street needed careful planning and structural solutions to bring it back into use as a relaxing outdoor space.

Before and after

The old rotten decking was carefully removed and replaced with a new design built to withstand the weight of modern materials. Drainage and planting were integrated to transform the large sun trap into a practical, inviting space once again.

Project description

We were proud to work with a renowned garden designer on their own personal project – a real seal of approval for us as chosen contractors. The roof garden came with unique challenges including structural weight limits, listed building status, and living space directly beneath the deck.

To overcome these, we partnered with specialist decking company Trekker to specify a pedestal system. This allowed us to ‘float’ a deck and porcelain paving above the roof, distributing weight effectively and creating room for planting. To reduce waste, timber from the old hardwood deck was repurposed to construct a shed, giving new life to existing materials.
